4 symptoms of asthma

There are many sing and symptoms of asthma butt we will discus only 4 here:

1.Respiration rate increased(normal resp rate is 14…..to...16/min)

2.Intera costal and sub costal recession esp in child.cyanosis may occur in severe cases.

3.chest wull be hyper resonant on percussion.

4.wheeze is heard on auscultation.

Note:Between the attacks,patient may be symptoms free and examination may be normal.

Tests for asthma

i.chest X ray usually normal

ii.ABGs(Arterial Blood Gases)

iii.pulmonary funcations test e.g FEVI(forced expiratory volume in 1st second)PEFR(peaked expiratory flow rate)etc.

Treatment/Drugs of asthma

a)General measures:

1)O2 inhalation.

2)Avoid precipirating factors;  

e.g stop smoking,early treatment of respiratory infection. Avoid beta blockers etc.

b)Specific treatment of asfhma;

Itdepends on severity os asthma,age of patient and availability of facilities but generally following line is followed:

i.O2 inhalation.

ii.ventoline nebulization by nebul8ser.Mic 1cc ventolime solution with 2cc normal saline and putin nubuliser for nebolization.(vapours formation)

iii.Beta agonist(beta stimulant)bronchodilators are started.e.g

▪ salbutamol

▪turbutaline are available in form of syps ,tab,sprays and injections.

iv.steriods have good responsein asthma.they have anti inflammatoryanf bronchodilators effects.they available in form of injections,tabs,syps and sprays.e.g

▪Dexamethasone

▪prednisolone

▪Hydrocortisone etc.

V.Aminophyllinehave anti inflammatory and bronchodilarot effects.(1cc=25mg).

>.it is available is inj,tab or syp.inj are used in emergency and given in infusion.

>Tab theophylline can b used for long time for asthma.

Vi.other drugs includs;

●ketotfin

●mountileukast

●Ipratropium bromide

●antibiotics are given only in infection is present.
